I told DaveS about my code 21 problem and that my dealer was clueless about the known possible defective interactive exhaust servo. He made contact with the factory and not only did they leave a message on my cell-phone but they also called my dealer and politely tore up some ! My dealer has usually been pretty good and did actually check for any recalls and found none listed for my bike, but the factory explained it is a known problem affecting only a few bikes and now they're falling all over themselves to correct my problem. I think this is partially the factory's fault by not informing the dealers of the potential problem but since it's not a safety item, I guess it's not something that warrants a recall. Maybe they should put out a bulletin for things like this to let the service people know about possible problems in the future. Great SUPPORT from the factory none the less! Not only did Buell design and produce and top notch bike but they are being VERY proactive about servicing their product as well. Things are definitely going in the right direction for Buell Motor Company. BC Steve

Interactive muffler servo. A small number of early production servos escaped with a burr on the worm drive gear, or something similar. It will cause the gear to hang occasionally, throwing a code 21 check engine light. Mine did it. Got a call from the factory after posting the issue here a month ago, had a replacement servo in my hand THE NEXT DAY!!! I'd heard then that a service bulletin was going to be issued, but I'm not sure if that happened or not. Supposedly only a small number of early units are affected by this. Al |
