My last bike, which I sold a couple of weeks ago, was a 2003 SV1000 naked and I had a 2002 Yamaha Road Star Warrior that I sold in the spring. I'm seriously considering a Uly, the BMW 1200GS is another bike high on my short list, and was wondering what everyone else was coming from and how does the Uly compare to your other bikes as a reference? Any BMW GS owners converting to the Buell? If so, what is your feedback on comparisons between the two bikes? One of the things that draws me to the BMW is the anti-dive front end. Bang for the buck the Buell seems like a better deal. I'm still holding out for the lower seat before I try and get a test ride. |

I was choosing between the GS and the Uly also. It came down to bang for buck. I have always wanted a GS. I have now ridden both and like the handling and overall feel of the Uly over the GS. The Uly seems to have much more power too. The Uly parts and service are much less expensive than the GS. I imagine dropping a Uly would be far less costly than dropping a GS. Incidentally, I had a 1981 Kaw KZ550 before. I am very happy with my decision. |

I came from a BMW K bike and was a little concerned about the front end dive after test riding a lightning, which seemed extreme to me, even on very controlled slow stopping. But I have not experienced the same disconcerting nose dive on the Uly. And have actually done a couple panicky breakings even while cornering. Although I should point out that at the moment it is rather stiff and I have not checked and customized the suspension settings yet. To be sure, it is there more than the Beemer but really hasn't bothered my at all. ~400 miles to date and I will obviously have better input after getting past the break in... |

I am comming off a 96 R1100GS. I got tired of the weird sensations you feel on the bmw, (engine torqueing, vauge steering feel, wandering) also the general bulk of the bike. I am a Harley guy at heart and still own the Buell S3 I bought in 98. Buying a Uly now. |

I traded in my 03 XB9S for the Uly. I am going to pick it up right now. Mike |

I sold a 2001 1150 GS to make room for the Uly, based solely on a report from friend that Buell had something ready to go like it. Unfortunately mine went to CA with Ferris so I can't give you any comparison evaluation. |

I'm coming off a Ducati ST2. But I view the Uly as a sport tourer. Handling is very important to me. Remember, daddy was a sportbike, not a dual sport. It shows. Since you have an SV, here's a frame of reference. A buddy rode my Uly. He had a V-Strom and has an SV1000S. He was waaay impressed with the Uly. He thought it had the comfort and luggage capacity of the Strom with the handling of the SV1000. M |

It's not in yet but I'll be moving from a Harley Night Train to a XB12X. I'll keep the Road Glide for the more relaxed rides. Throw hard cases on the XB12X and have a very versatile machine!!! |

FYI, the November issue of Motorcycle Consumer News is going to be doing a comparison between the Uly & the BMW R1200GS. Dave Searle of MCN has already raved about it, and if you believe what he writes, already ordered one for himself. FWIW,YMMV, etc. Glen |

I replaced replaced a CityX and BMW F65GS with a Ulysses and Kawasaki Sherpa 250. The Ulysses will be better at long adventure tours than the F650 and the Sherpa will be better at trail riding. I also have a Honda Silverwing scooter for weekend tours and commuting. The carport would have been too crowded to keep the CityX. |

I'm interested in seeing the MCN article comparing the GS and the Uly. I did see the last issue where Searle said he was buying one himself to replace his FZ1 that he just sold. |

I also have a Honda VTR1000R (keeping it). I was looking for something more versatile, could carry luggage and a pillion comfortably, but still had sport bike like handling and was fun to ride. I considered the BMW R1200GS but couldn't bring myself to spend that much $. I was about to plunk my cash down on the Multistrada, when I heard about the Uly. Test rode it at Vallejo HD. Ended up finding an orange one at Walnut creek HD and that was that! I love it. Wife loves it too. |

If I can convince the wife, I'll be changing from a Kawasaki ZZR1200 to a Uly. I'll miss the horsepower, but I want something lighter and more comfortable... |

I am ashamed to admit I'm selling my S2 in order to partially fund my new Ulysses. But it has found a good home with a fellow Badweb & Buell enthusiast. Jim in Santa Barbara |

You've talked yourself into going for it, huh Jim. I'll be quite interested in how many Uly's will be on the Octoberfast ride this weekend. I hope to get some good views of them in action. Let me know what happens so I can check it out. |

My last bike was a 650 Suzuki scooter that I totaled last April. I'll (hopefully) be getting my Uly in March. I plan on keeping the DR350, since it's paid for and costs next-to-nothing to support. Steve |

I am selling my FJR1300 to buy the Uly. The FJR has been the best bike I've ever owned. Reliable, powerful, easy to maintain, and handles great with the Wilbers suspension I put on it. The only two problems I have with it are the lack of ground clearance for "spirited" riding and it folds my 36" inseam up just a bit too much. Not bad, but I get uncomfortable after about 150 miles or so. The Uly will hopefully correct the legroom and clearance issue for me, and be reliable and easy to maintain as well. |

Bertman, Yeah, I talked myself into it. But the decision point made when I went to Glendale HD/Buell to ride their Black Uly demo. I had my riding gear on (except I wore some work boots instead of my Sidi's for an extra .5" of reach if needed). They had the pre-load dialed down low. I sat on the bike and knew instantly I would be okay with the stock seat. The demo ride was brief but sweet. But having spoken at length with 2 guys I know and trust who have extensive Uly mileage already, I knew what to expect and I was not disappointed. Halfway through the demo I was grinning like a possum eating ..., well you get the idea. Rode my Barricade Orange Uly home and have been using it a little every day since. It's hard to stay off the bike. Jim in Santa Barbara |

ANyone need bags, center stand and other items for a late model Tiger? Well I succumbed to the siren's call and traded in my 2001 Triumph Tiger for a Black XB12X #01069. So far, there are only a couple things that the Tiger has over the Uly that I can think of. I could list all the terrific things about the Uly but it's already been covered and its easier to make the short list. - Headlights - Wind protection (and I was running the sport screen on the Tiger) - Factory heated grips The Uly is far more balanced and stable than my Tiger ever felt. Until I bought the Uly I've always owned sport bikes. I sold my '02 VFR800 ABS with Corbin bags to fund the Uly and am really digging it so far. Although I would really like some more wind protection on the highway and can't wait for my bags to come in. I also still own an '04 Aprillia RSV1000R Factory and a '90 FZR400. |

I currently own a 2005 zx10 that I bought in June. My only problem is that I haven't owned it long enough to get anything for it on trade in and I can't decide between the xb12ss or the xb12x. I like the fact that I could go light offroading on the xb12x but I think the dealer is going to rape me for one.I will have to decide as soon as I can because I have to have one of these two bikes! |

Guess I'm first to trade a BMW R1200GS for a Uly. Computer crap & power brakes are more than I'm willing to tolerate. The Uly will sit next to the '04 Sportster 1200R Cafe (Storz rearsets, Supertrapp, big tank & matched paint 1/4 fairing from HD). Dave Stueve at Appleton did good by me.} |

I traded in a 1200cc H.D. Sportster for my Uly, you wouldn't believe its based on the same engine. The Uly corners better, is faster and vibrates less, much more comfortable for the pillion too. Not only that but I was out for a run with 3 members of the local Harley Owners Group the other day (I'm still a member) & we parked up with my Uly, a Road King, a Night Train & a Heritage Softail (all covered in extra chrome)next to each other & which bike drew ALL the attention from passers by?, well, it wasn't a harley! A few noses out of joint there, don't know how long I'll be welcome riding with my HOG mates at this rate. |

Better find some Buell riders in your area soon. You will find that you will have more fun on your rides if you ride with others who have the same kind of bikes. My Ex had a Road Star and I really didn't find riding with that group to be very rewarding. |
