anyone with a Uly want to hit some offroad one of these weekends? I'm in nyc area but can easily travel 500+ miles anywhere, any weekend. I just don't want to be riding solo and fall off and get a branch through the leg or something. | ||

Banger, good choice on hooking up with others for the ride. Take some basic items along too just in case. Knife, tape, zip ties, flat tire repair kit, lots of water, a few tools, cell phone (although it may not work), etc. When we get out in the back country on our dual sport bikes we also bring tow straps, a fair assortment of tools, etc. If you end up going by yourself (not recommended)at a minimum make sure someone knows where you're going and when to start getting concerned. And of course if you do go by yourself ride with a bit more caution. The Uly is going to open some doors to new areas for Buellers. As long as they're thinking ahead, as you seem to be, it's going to be a lot of fun. Enjoy, Jim in Santa Barbara | ||

I'll agree with what Jim said and with that in mind, I would also like to get a Uly ride together on the left coast some time before the weather changes for the worse. It's going to be a couple weeks before I can get some free time on a weekend to do it though. How many Ulys do we have within say a 2-3 hundred miles from the San Francisco Bay area that can get together? I haven't found any accessable fire-roads in my local area but I hear there are plenty in the sierras. Are there any in your area Jim? BC Steve | ||

Hi Steve, Yeah, we've got some possible Uly turf down this way. Paved, unpaved and some of Fred's Goat Trails too. But I'm willing to bet the best stuff is to be found in the Sierras. I hear there are lots of great fire roads up there. This may take some research. Normally I ride fire roads on my DRZ and I don't get concerned too much with the terrain. For those of us in SoCal, there is a great book available called Backcountry Adventures: Southern California - available through Amazon, and I think AAA sells it. Anyway, it's a guide to California Backcountry for SUV owners. The book is really well laid out, and provides a bunch of info regarding accessible trails including; difficulty rating, scenic scale, length, drive time , remoteness rating, GPS co-ords, and so forth. With the help of this book, I've mapped out many memorable, manageable trails that I've ridden on my V-Strom, and plan to do again on th Uly Cheers -Jack | ||

roger that on taking precautions/preparing. all the major injuries I've ever had were offroad, and when I was not running solo. I get pretty conservative alone. | ||

brane, I noticed you said your bike was at 8K. How is the rear tire holding up? I am at 5 and she is getting close. Just curious. Thanks | ||

most of my 8k is the cross country trip: nyc-sf, and then down to santabarbara and back. its looking pretty darn good considering. I suspect its going to wear down pretty quick now that I'll be commuting everyday. wasn't too much stop and go in the 8k its done. but I'd like to make it last until my 10k service so I can take care of both things at once. | ||

 i didnt waltz cross country either, I did 80+ going there, and 90-115 most of the way back. I hit PCH pretty hard and you cant even tell looking at the edges. If i ever get around to it i'll try to reduce the size of the video i shot on pch and post it. | ||

Here's a pic of mine at 2.7K miles. I ride kinda hard and don't get the use that most people normally would. I can say that this tire is a pretty damn good one considering the old 207 rocklops would be toast by now! BC Steve My backyard is the twisties!  | ||
