I have a 32" inseam and it's tall for me.
I test rode my XB12X today at Lancaster Buell (I'm picking it up on Monday, thats another story)
After the test ride I came to a stop and forgot how tall it was. I stuck my foot out and there was no ground there. I didn't fall but it scared me for a min.

What's your inseam? My inseam is 31 inches so I'm waiting for the low seat to come out to see if it will fit me ok. I don't think I'd be comfortable on the taller seat.

Not me, that's for sure. But then again I don't know of a single Ulysses in the state of North Carolina that I can check out. I'm beginning to think that the officials of the state think the Ulysses means Ulysses S. Grant and won't allow them South of the Mason-Dixon line...

Damn, I want to see one too...

One is supposed to arrive in Statesville later this week but I think it is already sold-ask Bigdaddy.
Call Paul at Tilley's. I called Crossroads HD in Wilkesboro and they said they sold their first one
already and they did not expect the second one until January! That seems impossible. If I was Erik Buell
I would be building more bikes and fanning the fire!

If you want to see if the Uly with the low seat will fit you, sit on a Lightning CityX. I believe the difference in seat height between the two is four tenths of an inch. The Uly being the taller. I have a 31" inseam and had both feat flat on the floor with the CityX

I went to a dealer last week and sat on the only Uly in this area. It was not available for test rides unfortunately.

I have a 32" inseam and was wearing hiking boot type shoes (not thin soles) and I could not flat foot both feet. I was on the balls of both feet fairly well and could not have moved the bike very far unless on lfat ground.

Nice bike, the seat felt nothing short of !great!, But I'm not shopping for a bike, just kicking tires.

There seems to be some difference of opinion on what size leg fits the Uly. I have a 31" inseam and am quite comfortable on the standard bike with the balls of both feet on the ground. Before making a final decision try playing with the remote preload adjuster, as I don't think there is a particular factory setting.

Isn't that a trick photo Jose? The bike appears to be on it's side stand, so it must be leaning way over to the left making the reach for your right leg even longer : )

I'm 5-11, but with a short 30" inseam (and even scuff the rear up on all my 30" inseam blue jeans under the heel). It's tippy toes on both sides for sure, even with the preload relaxed. I can do the slide butt cheek to one side to flat foot on one side. I'm not at all uncomfortable with it, but many would be.

So far, the only real issue with it is backing up. Hard to do while straddling the bike if it isn't downhill. No biggie, I jump off and push it backwards from the side.

But I am REALLY diggin the extra suspension that the extra suspension affords. The ride is PLUSH. Last week I drove across the length of LA from the Rock store after leaving Ferris and company. Normally the LA freeway beats the crap outta me as the bike see-saws sharply down the choppy road. The XB9 is worse than the S3, but both are not fun, and most other motorcyclists I talk to say the same thing. I was halfway across LA before I realized that I wasn't getting beaten up by the choppiness. The Uly soaks most of it up.

I'll happily make the trade of the convenience of low height for the ride. Other than a little bit of excess nose dive under hard braking, I think the Uly is a great combination of excellent handling AND plush ride.

Funny how much coming off of another bike effects your opinion. I've noticed no nose-dive on my Uly, but I've been spending a lot of time on my KLR650.

I'm 5'10" and adapting, it's tall but it's OK, I agree with Al about the comfort (main reason I bought it is I like to ride the lesser known paved roads that can get quite rough), the extra suspension travel works great, it soaks up the rough patches no worries, I got what I was hoping for. As far as seat height goes it *feels* a fair bit higher than my XB12S with the CityX seat, but I don't weigh much so that wouldn't help. Need to get the missus on the back to break in the rear spring like I did with the XB12S, I'm running on zero preload front and rear and the bike doesn't sink much when I sit on it.

It appears the rear preload is hydraulically operated so it should be OK to adjust it on the run, can anyone confirm this?

The rear preload adjusts very easily when the bike is not loaded. I did try to make an adjustment while my son and I were on the bike and I could not turn the adjuster without applying a LOT of force so I didn't force it.

You may be able to adjust it on the fly if you're that light but I can't because I'm quite heavy.

I don't see the need for adjusting on-the-fly.

It only takes a minute to get off the bike and make the adjustment.

Yes, that was an "oh, Sxxx" expression on my face.

Even hanging off the side of it, the bike would be a handful for me any time I needed to stop. I already have to get off my S3 to back it up, this one would be no different.

That being said, the lower seat and some appropriate riding boots would help a bunch.

The one thing I noticed was that the handlebars were already nearly touching the top of the forks, so "sliding" the forks up in the trees to lower the front end a bit would need a different handlebar bend.

I still think switching to the 12Ss fork/shock springs would be the simplest way to lower the bike. Yes you loose that extra travel but for some riders that's the only way they'll be comfortable with it.

My closest (~60 miles away) dealership finally got one in, and the pic doesn't show it as well as yours does, but I am about the same as you on a Uly.
1313 on a Uly
Left foot ~3-4 inches away from tarmac, right about 6 inches. Can shift to the left in order to get one foot down, but would not be able to confidently lift the bike to get the sidestand off previously mentioned tarmac.

During the chat Jon Bunne answered my question regarding swapping the Ss suspension onto the Ulysses and gave a clue that the trunk on the Ulysses does not provide enough clearance for the lower suspension. Looking inside the trunk today shows a lot of things will have to move up in order to raise the bottom surface of the trunk. Not impossible by any means, but not for everyone.

I don't think it's that big of an obstacle.

I think you can lower the suspension 1-2 inches and still clear that area.
