well I didnt plan this very well, and all the dealers are pretty packed getting ready for the holidays.

can I get away with just an oil change at 5k miles? then do another 3-4 k before bringing it into a dealer?

Brane,
You might be able to "get by" with just an oil change, but there is a lot more done at the 5K service than that.

harley-davidson.com has a neat feature for bikes (including Buells 1994 and newer). Put your VIN and mileage in and it will tell you all of the items that need to be checked at the next service interval. If you look under the 2006 Motorcycle info, then the Wrenching Dept. you will see the spot to put your VIN and mileage in.

Here is the link, if they let us post those here:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/EX/MNT/en/wrenchingdept.asp?locale=en_US&bmLocale =en_US

Hope this helps answer your question.

firemanjim and dynobueller took care of me, and then some. I went in to vallejo for oil change left with full 5k service and some new friends to boot.

Hey Branebanger,

You've passed 5K miles on a XB12X? How are the tires holding up? Just curious as I bet it will be awhile before you can get the D616 anywhere other than a dealer, I bet most dealers don't have them right now. My 0.02. Yea the XB12X has popular sized tires and anything would do in a pinch, but I still ponder such things.

Branebanger...I know alot of us have been thinking that other than oil changes, the Buell was "maintenance free". Can you tell me what was done, and what the dealer charged for the 5K service? I bought by last Buell from Vallejo (a very good experience), and I'll probably use them for my service needs. Thanks

can't thank you enough terry, the bike rode so smooth on the way home, I had to take my ear plugs out. I was having problems feeling the engine revving and was consistantly going up to 110 mph. after I got stopped by hihway patrol adn got a ticket (nice guy bumped it down to 90) I took my ear plugs out.

2hogs: I can post pics of the tires if someone tells me how. the front tire looks fairly new, the back tire is noticably worn now (at about 7+k miles). Looks like its still good for a thousand miles or so.

this is my second rear tire, the first got flat while returning to my dealer after the inital break in. they replaced it free (i have the warranty with tire/rims) I hope they get another one soon i'm gonna need it.

Ironbuttbill: Terry can answer what was done better than I can. I'll have to check my invoice for the exact cost - was a few hundred dollars if I remember. whatever it was it was worth every penny - I'll check and post it.

Branebanger,

Thanks. Typical sport-touring mileage. Figured the rear would wear quicker. Seems my decision to purchase the equipment
to mount and balance motorcycle tires was a good idea.
Cheers

I think after another 1k miles its gonna be bald in the middle, maybe its time for battle trax or a track day or two.

That tire looks brand new compared to what I ride with!
