Hi guys,
does anyone know if the racing kit for the XB12 will fit the Ulysses? I know that Buell does not give it as an option (the XB12X has a different fuel mapping to deliver more power at lower rpms) so probably the problem is the ECM or they suspect that the racing muffler will be easily damaged on off road use... We haven't received them in Europe until now so if somebody has already made the swap please let me know. Thanks!

During the chat last night they said they would be clearance issues with the muffler on the Uly with the suspension fully extended?

Dave is correct. At first they said fully compressed but corrected to say there are clearance issues when fully extended.

Swingarm must bump into the aft end of the can or tailpipe?

It was also mentioned in chat, by Erik I think, that the stock muffler can take a beating and not to worry about it being exposed to the ground...

I wonder if the race kit could take the same beating..

I think it's the new extensive lower belt guard that could bump into the right side outlet on the race can when the swing arm is fully extended. I suppose you could trim a little off the outlet if necessary to provide clearance.

I'm sure Odie or Kevin can come up with one that'll work without a problem.

I'm still a few (or more) months from being able to get my hands on a Uly. But I've already been thinking of ways to add an aftermarket pipe. I'm thinking something like the D&D pipe (small and loud) with an aluminium skid plate. In the meantime, I'll sit here in wishing I had more money : )

According to the dealer, the other kits won't fit and were not considered to fit on the Uly. Having bought one of the first ones, I am going to have to wait the weeks and months afterward until the aftermarket and dealer power kits and etc. catch up. Meanwhile, I guess I will have to suffer through just riding it : )

I was told that if you eliminate the active exhaust system and then do all the mods to up the performance that you would be gaining very little without increasing the size of the motor.

After riding mine for almost three weeks now and comparing it to my stage two S3, I can believe what they said. The motor has power all over the spectrum and I can't see really needing any more.

Of Course there are some who just have to tinker...

I've just bought a (black) Uly and am having the race kit fitted pre-delivery (now), I've asked the mechanic to check clearance and hit the outlets with a angle grinder if necessary! I've also had the seat sent to get it modified as per the low seat prototype (au$200), can't believe the factory price (au$520) on something that should be a straight no cost option!

Ok, we're taking it up through Asia (my girlfriend and I), so it will depend on where we are when it's run in!

We did it! and it works! There is no clearance issue with the racing pipe on it. After installing the muffler, we lifted the bike until the rear wheel stopped touching the ground. There is no way the right side outlet touches the belt cover (unless you take the Ulysses to a cross country race and start jumping around...). However there is a small clearance problem regarding the side stand, it will hit the left exhaust outlet by a millimetre or so so it needs a small spacer between the stand and his base. What is amazing is the huge difference in power compared to a stock XB12X. Probably the factory guys decided to reprogram the ECM to produce a smoother power band; swapping to the Race Kit makes the bike OUTSTANDING!!! If you had owned another XB before the Ulysses and where impressed after making some mods, try this one. Now we are talking...

This is the dyno result comparison I want to see:
1. Stock
2. Full Race (Diablo's set up above)
3. Drummer muffler and stock ECM
4. Drummer muffler and race ECM
5. Drummer muffler and TFI ( Kevin's settings)

This is going to get very interesting.

Did anyone ever post any dyno runs with exhaust/ECM mods?
