First order of business... Thanks DaveS, the VDSTS I ordered from you on 18 August arrived 23 August. 24 August, my beloved Ulysses @ 700 miles... me with brand new untried diagnostic software installed in laptop. Connected cable to serial port on laptop, connected to access port on Ulysses, booted computer, opened VDSTS program. Since this is my first time, seems reasonable to have a little look around, click on Active Test command, then figuring "what could it hurt" (experienced VDSTS users now giggling) clicked on TPS... countdown begins... PASS appears in display. I figure what ever happened, PASS is good. Click on Dash-Board monitor command... well, this is more like it, stuff to look at, gauges and numbers. That's strange, TPS shows 0.0, (but shows an increase when I twist throttle) no matter, I'll go for a ride now, read the manual and continue playing with the new software later. Wrong!... bike starts but won't continue to run, apparently some idiot zeroed the TPS/ECM. Wife is finished pointing and laughing... (hey, at least now I know how to reset to zero, and didn't have to read no stinking manual) I turn idle-adjuster out until I feel throttle-plate "bottom" (for lack of a better description), then give 1-turn more for good measure. Go back to Active Test command and reset to 0.0 once again... return to Dash-Board monitor and adjust idle until display shows 5.5. Test ride: Hey, that off-idle stumble is gone... bike runs great. Cooling fan comes on just as I shut the bike off in garage, goes off by the time I reconnect laptop and have it booted. Engine temp shows 132c (270f), TPS is still 5.5, idle-speed is a little low. Adjust idle speed to 1075 RPM @ 132c @ 6.0 TPS... I can now check TPS without inadvertently zeroing, then adjust if/as required... and still have time for another morning ride. |

Thanks for the chuckle. I can easily see myself doing something similar. Now, maybe I won't ... Henrik |
