Any one out there with a new Uly that has the bags installed yet? I was wondering if the brackets are easily removable and re-mountable. 80-90% of my riding I won't need those huge saddle bags but don't want the rectangular brackets just hanging there empty either...

thanks, Chris

Cdallen,
I'm thinking the same thing. All 3 bags for going camping and medium-long trips (have a Raod Glide for the long trips), but just the top case for commuting to work. Once my Ulysses comes in (begin Sept) I'm thinking about designing a quick detachable mounting setup for it, using quick release hardware like the Glide has. I was mainly thinking of mounting aluminum hard cases though.

Cheers

I'm with ya on this..I will want the hard bags for big trips, but if the brackets are even half as ugly as the S3 bag brackets, I'll want them off in between.

I'm thrilled how easy my Ventura aero bagfits on the triple tail. It drops right onto the tri tail in the vertical position, and the two clips that hold it down go right around the hand rails like it was made for it. It will let me carry a fair amount of stuff securely with none of the saddlebag bracketry attached. Not that in this picture, most of the bag was empty, but there was a huge water bottle in the front pocket. The Ventura bag normally doesn't look so "frumpy".

Normally, I'm not so crazy about tail bags since they are prone to shifting around a bit. This arrangment has ZERO shift. Nice.

Al

Probably take you about a half an hour to take the brackets off.

I'm going the opposite way to 2hogs, I have ordered the side bags but not the top box, I have always thought that top boxes make bikes look ungainly and this is no exception, I think it looks pretty sleek with the bags alone , ..oh and a tank bag of course.

That is the route I am going too. side bags and tank bag. just don't like the big trunk sticking out the back of a bike.

Thanks Dave for the response, PMed you also.

How hard would it be to make a conversion mount to adapt the Uly bags to an XBR?

Tank bag, what's that? Just pulling your leg. My Road Glide has the 3 hard cases (tour-pak was optional). I guess I'm use to it being back there. Course the Glide is an ocean liner compared to the Buell, so I may start with 2 aluminum cases, and see if my 'packing list' (motorcycle camping) fits in them. The hard part is keeping the stove fuel away from foods that would absorb the odor. The fuel usually ends up in the bag with the dirty clothes :-)

Cheers

I had the same thought as tele except I was wondering if the Uly's bags could be adapted to the ss(long) if I find that the Uly is to tall for me.

Hmm this is getting interesting.... I just returned from a 3 day trip on my Glide. Thought about the Uly several times during the trip. Even stopped at Daves store but it was Sunday- CLOSED-bummer wanted to set or ride the Uly. Only second thought I have is track days on the Uly? I don't know the 9R is still my favorite.....keep writin everyone.....
