For us folks with an inseam of more than 30" and a wife/girlfriend who weighs more than 100lbs I think the Uly would be a great 2 up bike, from what I've read anyway. I'm waiting to actually ride one. I love the XB12S, but after riding one it is too short and not good for 2 up.

Tom, my inseam is 30" on a good day. will be interesting to see if the Uly's seat height is an issue for me or not. being of this stature i don't think i've EVER had a streetbike i could flat-foot both feet at the same time.

Henrik and David--just as long as both of you are just "retiring" the S-2s and not selling them---

Jerry, my inseam is closer to 34" and I weigh 215 and am 6 ft. Until now the Xb series has been what I consider too small. My X-1 really sucks for "real world" 2 up riding. I would hope that the uly is an improvement on both since so far it sounds like it is. Just waiting to actuallly ride one. I can flat foot most strretbikes, some of the enduros like the XL i have to toe.

Ferris: a Uly most likely would work very well on the BRP (the one in VA-NC). Hence the Aug. 2006 time span : )

Fireman; no worries mate - the S2 stays in the garage. It'll just be doing 'round town and shorter trip duty.

Henrik, that's FANTASTIC news! : )

Tom_b, three days of my ride will be two-up, covering a respectable amount of ground (four states) and conditions (+14,110 feet to -282 feet), with a full complement of gear on-board.

i. like you, wonder if the Ulysses truly is an excellent "real world" motorcycle for two.

30 days 'til launch.

Blue Ridge Parkway! I love it, but the cops have gotten too serious now a days. Better to play on the "Watch out for that Tree" back roads.

I've traveled some on the M2. This year was really the first year I ventured far enough away from home to not be called a day trip. Daytona: 600 miles one way, 1500 miles in three days, Suches: 500 miles one way, 2100 miles in five days, and Cincinnati: 650 miles one way, 1400 miles in three days. The problem is I enjoyed it. I want to do more, but I have the same altitude problem as Reg and I do not like tall bikes.

Reg, you make a good point about adapting. I do fit nicely on an XB-R, but can not imagine traveling 600 miles in one day on one. The XB-S is somewhat better, but I prefer the R peg to shifter angle, and still, the S is no comparison in comfort and two up capacity of my M2. The Uly has it, I just don't fit and to adapt may mean the M2 stays or something other than a Buell comes home for sport touring duty. Hey, I can take a hint.

José, Sorry, I don't have any good S3T fairings to try on. How's this hack of a Super Hawk unit?

FMJ,
No worries, mate. The S2 stays, but like Henrik said, I'm going to target it at weekend and solo duty. Something like the Uly has been simmering in the back of my mind since Buellganza '02 at the Wilson's. Henrik and Griz had a ton of fun on the GS and the Tiger, and on the way back I went by a dirt road with a sign that said "Deadwood, 7 miles." I would have loved to take that road.
