I'm a little surprised that no other reviews have appeared from the press introduction this week. If the online publications were invited, they should have something up soon. The monthlies will be a month or two later.

Rider should have a test of the XB12Ss Lighting Long out soon; they got it the same time as CW received the Ulysses.

Steve,
Was it our friend Don Canet who had the little mishap that Reg mentioned? If so, I want to send him a get well card. : )

Thanks for the links, Steve. Enjoyed your article as well.

Looks like a very good bike. Can't wait to test one myself.

Blake -- I don't know who crashed. Matt Miles was there for Cycle World, and I haven't talked to him since he got back. Don fell down on our comparison ride on the Ulysses. We were on a stretch of paved fire road (the Forest Service got tired of grading it) that was about 12 feet wide, had some amazing whoops paved in, and was covered in many places with dust and gravel. Don fell on an off-camber downhill on a small patch of gravel that was exactly the same color as the asphalt. I'm still impressed how little damage was done considering how hard the bike went down. Don was hurting at the time, but he seemed to have no permanent damage.

I just noticed that Reg said there's and LED tail light on the XB12X. Wonder if it will fit the other XB's.

Excellent review. I'm very pleased to hear that someone with a 30" inseam won't have any trouble handling it with the optional low seat.

Just read Reg's review...no matter what he writes, it's always a great read!

Eager to get the Cycle World.

Sounds like the XB12X fared better than the X-1 **** ******** launched off the cliff at the last press intro I attended.

Is Kittrelle a professional moto-journo? His writing is superb. A great read indeed.

Dang it! Now look at what you've gone and done, Erik. I'm just getting to where I feel comfortable in the triple digits with my 9R and you go and drop the 12 X in my lap.
How on earth do you expect me to try and justify this one to my wife. You do realize I now MUST add this to my stable.
In all seriousness I gotta have one.

Huh?

Welcome young'en . . . .

There was a time, long, long ago, when a caveman took a crude stone tool and scribed on a wall......

quote:

"feels great to me, but have Reg ride it and see what he thinks"

Reg has been riding and writing about motorcycles since the decision was made to go with the 2-wheel design.

He's honest as Abe, feisty as hell and has an uncanny ability to sort out what matters and see past the "gazillion horsepower and quadruple 490mm front disc" tomfoolery.

Really...the only problem with Reg is that he's over 50.

Write Wing Motojournalists

Errrr..wait...never mind.

That's a damn fine review. Just test rode the Ulysses yesterday during a demo day I didn't even know was coming, nevermind the fact the Ul would be there! First thing, damn this is one tall motorcycle! I also have a 30" inseam, and I was right on the tips of my boots! This Ulysses did not come with the optional shorter seat (but I can hardly wait to test ride one that's a little lower...).
That engine pulls like a tractor from idle...awesome! Really liked the looks and the functional features mentioned in the Kittrelle article (i.e. bungee hooks, fold-up backrest/luggage platform) and would like to see the luggage "in person".
One thing he does not mention, which was hard to miss at low speed (this dealership still doesn't know how to conduct a good test ride!) was the abundance of heat emanating around my left ankle, presumably from the exhaust exit...it was rather intense!
Hope Buell has the answer with the lower seat for us inseam-challenged out there, because if this one issue can be addressed, I think I'm gonna own one very shortly (no pun intended)...

As I said in a different thread, Reg wrote his article in a way that made me feel I was there in the saddle and experienced everything he and the other's did.

Has been a long time since I have read an article like that.

Thanks Reg!!!

BTW, Mr. Buell, if you're listening, why do those of us of statistically "average" height have to pay extra for the low seat?

Why not make the "low" seat standard and make the oversize crowd pay extra for the "tall" seat?

PS. I fit on my S2 fine. I hope I can fit on the XB12X.

Regards,

Dudes:

1) The above photo was shot by none other than our own Jerry Haughton. Talk about a WILD weekend!

2) Jim, you'll fit the XB12X fine go around summarily declaring yourself as "average" and we'll send you a complimentary Kawasaki. The seats were made intentionally expensive so many who labored long and hard for years can enjoy the highlife, 5-star hotels and pricey automobiles.

: )

Go ride the bike.....

P.S. - apparently there will be a document S-2 owners will be required to executer prior to placing a deposit on a Ulysses. You sell your S-2, at anytime during Ulysses ownership, you forfeit title.
