The photo evidently actually came from the AMA on-line review of the bike. The guy that posted the extensive Ulysses review at Sacborg said that the bikes are much "oranger" than the other photos have shown, and someone posted this photo in response, but I wonder if they're really this color?

Hey, either way, I like it.

Man, I hope not. I know it's called barricade orange, but I liked the yeollowish orange much better.

Hmmm... I torn between wanting the all black one or this orange one. Both look really good.

Two more photos from the American Sport Bike Night site. Evidently this bike has the optional low seat:

Looks like the color isn't quite as orange as the first photo in this thread makes it appear, but it's still a little more orange than the Cycle World photos or the photos at Buell.com show it. The reviewer described the color as between KTM orange and the yellow that shows in the Cycle World article.

What's the patch on the front of the saddle for?

I don't think I am even going to go there. However, it is an interesting design element, eh?

OK, rather than go in that direction...

maybe it provides access to the under-seat power outlet for plugging in heated clothing, etc.?

The guy that posted the extensive review of the Ulysses on SacBORG is Reg Kittrelle. The same guy who sent me those pictures to post on the American Sport Bike Night website.

Dig up some old issues of Battle2Win magazine for all of the Buell history.

Great review of the Ulysses BTW.

That's the bike I rode during the press intro in the 2nd & 3rd pix. The patch is just a design element. The 3rd pix is the closest to showing the actual color, tho still a bit too "orangey". The orange portion at the rear of the seat is actually part of the seat itself; not a hard plastic cover, as some have suggested.
And yes, the 1st. pix is atop Mt. Evans. That bike was ridden by Bill Wood of the AMA. He and I teamed for a rip through the Rockies.

Reg... that was a great write up on the Ulysses demo ride. I took the liberty of cutting and pasting it from Sacborg to ADVRider.com I did credit you with authorship. I hope that isn't a problem. AT 5'10" with a 30" inseam I was a bit reassured when reading your comments.

There has been allot of interest in the Ulysses over on that forum.... some predictable knee jerk Buell bashing from BMW and KTM enthusiasts, but many minds open enough to seriously look at a Buell for the first time.

Reg, I also really enjoyed your review. I'm ~5'9" with a 30" inseam so I was also reassured to read what you had to say about the low seat.

One thing's for certain- Buell has generated more interest in this bike than any of their previous efforts (maybe all previous efforts combined).

Hey Reg,
Thank you for visiting with all us Buell-Aid drinkers. You want some?

Can you PM me the info about the brave moto-journo who hurt his ribs? I'd like to send him a get-well card.

Thanx, Eor... No problem, post away... it's not like I'm in line for a Pulitzer.

To a degree the Buell bashing is understandable. To say the least, Buell has had a rocky history. The issue that I have with the bashers is their desire to make a career of it.

Whodom... we have matching inseams. Which means that you'll have to be as careful as I was. If a Ulysses ends up in my garage I'm going to have the nose of the low seat narrowed by 2-inches. Even

It's funny, all the online bashing would make you think the Buell is loathed by so many riders, and yet in the "REAL WORLD" I find , especially lately, that when out riding and gathering with other motorcycle enthusiasts of all colors, that the Buells seem to generate nothing but praise and positive comments and questions! Even my old 26,000 mile '00 M2!

Well I hate to play devils advocate, but you're never going to get a "true" vision of the shade it comes in until you actually get to see one in person. There are several factors that change hue/saturation of color on digital pictures. I.e. lighting conditions, camera flash, artificial light (streetlights), also the monitor you're looking at right now can make some colors look more orange/yellow/blue/red/green/you name it 'ish than someone elses. Personally, when I read "Barricade orange" I thought about the bob's barricade 50gallon construction drum barricades.. but I'll wait till the local shop gets one before I trash or treasure the color choice of this dual sport beast.

*puts soapbox back under the podium*

I think the orange looks great. I wish Buell would have more color options. It's not like there are a whole lot of parts to paint or change!

Reg...If you want a Pulitzer, it will have to be in a new category. You know something like "Tell it like it really is" Journalism.

Really took your ramblings to heart as they were written from the perspective of a real motorcycle enthusiast and not the typical constrained by their editors scribe.

Yes, I did enjoy Steve's article in CW and all the follow up he has done here on the BWB. However, that seemed more like a precursor to future in depth articles like yours.

You made me feel like I was there sharing the experience, not sitting in an easy chair reading one company line or another.

Thanx for the kind words, Outrider. I am an enthusiast first, if my writing comes across readable it's because the motorcycle in question was either very good... or very bad. (Harder 'n hell to write about mediocrity)
