It figures Sport Rider would wreck the surprise compliments of their not being a monthly mag.

You think that the buell marketing team didn't know when that issue would be released? I bet they did. I'm hoping that they're just wetting our appetites for the other model. I keep hearing fairings and supersport here and there, you just never know.

I was just comparing City-X photos to the XB12X. Note there's a lot more space between the front wheel and the engine/muffler fairing. I'm thinking longer wheelbase. There also appears to be more ground clearance like Dave said. The headlights seem to be mounted further out of the forks, so that the upper fairing slants rearward more than the XB standard version. The rear of the bike is almost completely black in the drawing, so I can't pick out any details even fooling around with the brightness/contrast.

Worst thing is, I'll be away from home Saturday and won't get to check Buell.com until late Sunday!!

Not impressed (even though it's a drawing). Seems to be nothing more than a XB12S higher off the ground.

just a drawing, but the wheelbase looks longer, and the rake ansd trail looks different, too. A little too soon to say it's just a 12s! I cant believe some of you guys are damning this thing before you even see it! I guess you just cant please all of the people...

I think this new bike has become like one of our kids, we all have an idea of how we want it to turn out. Unfortunately, like all kids, we don't have much of an option.

"So who wants the first one I get?"

Hmmmmm...That depends upon several variables.

I must admit to being slightly disappointed with what I see in this advertisement. It appears to be naught but an iBike (City-X) of a different colour, with a high-mount front fender.

In fact, as the picture is now available for all to see, is there any information that could be given to prospective buyers that would not compromise any one's job?

Fuel tank size?

Wheelbase?

Wheel and Tyre size/type? (tube less I hope, if not deal breaker as tubes stink)

Suspension? Both manufacturer and length/adjustability.

MSRP?

When will it be available?

Is there a California only bike? I really hope not. We usually get stuck with even smaller fuel tanks because of our lame air quality "requirements".

Thank you for any information you may be able to provide, and yes sir, I am a prospective Buell customer. I currently own an '04 RK-Classic, and an '01 Suzuki DR650. A bike such as this one would not replace either of the two I just mentioned. I am also considering a Ducati MultiStrada 620 for the same reason as I am looking at a Buell.

Fun.

Thank you my friend.

I just wonder where they came up with the name. What, was there a hurricane named Ulysses or something?

In Roman literature, he was called "Odysseus", from which the we get the term "Odyssey", meaning an epic journey.

Some thing they wish this bike to evoke, thoughts of epic journeys, a motorcycling hejira if you will. I will reserve full judgment when I know more of the specifications and MSRP. I am against tubed tyres, especially since I own two such "bicycles"; ), and I am also not fond of tiny fuel tanks, having replaced the DR's cell with a 4.9 gallon tank from IMS.

I really hope there is more than meets the eye with this bike. If not, there is all ways the MultiStrada 620 or City-X for me to consider. Both nice enough rides.

Again, any specification info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Ulysses is the name of a WWII aircraft. I forget which model line, but Erik names all the models after them.

so maybe they're taking a page from Harley? 3 frames + 1 engine + a big parts bin = 20 bikes (ie the '05 BigTwin collection)

"Ulysses is the name of a WWII aircraft. I forget which model line, but Erik names all the models after them."

Not quite WWII:

GTF Ulysses
Developed by Vasudans and Terrans working together after the reluctant close of the 14 year T-V war. It is the best all around fighter that the Terrans get. Its primary role is space superiority, and its one major flaw is a lack of a big secondary payload. It is used in missions such as patrols, escorts, cover for assaults. Its maneuverability is great. Its speed is second only to the interceptor (GTF Valkyrie). It can't hold the Banshee or the Phoenix, or any bombs, but otherwise it has access to all weapon systems. Due to its engine configuration, this fighter can yaw faster than any other ship.

Oldroadtoad,
I don't know any more than you guys do.
If I were to guess,

Fuel tank size? bigger

Wheelbase? longer

Wheel and Tyre size/type? (tube less I hope, if not deal breaker as tubes stink) I'm thinking Scorpions, tubeless

Suspension? Both manufacturer and length/adjustability. Showa, more travel, not sure how much

MSRP? 10,495.00 same as the current 12 bikes

When will it be available? Fall

Is there a California only bike? I really hope not. We usually get stuck with even smaller fuel tanks because of our lame air quality "requirements". Probably

These are only my opinions. YMMV

ok, is there a decent size market for a Buell dual sport?
I just don't understand the trend.
From the XB12R and S, to the CityX (city motocross), now a Dual sport (half dirtbike)

the add says, "own every corner" are we led to believe this bike will corner as well as the current XBs...the ad also states "real world" sportbike. what does that mean? compared to a "fake world" bike...I am not damning, just trying to follow the logic of Buells bouncing ball.

Not half "dirtbike", not "dual sport"... Adventure Sport. Big difference. Maybe you don't know the difference. Blake explain... Dual sport be like a DRZ400. An Adventure Sport would be a Ducati Multistrada, one of Duc's best selling models.

Some may not "get it", but many do, me among 'em. : )

"Real world", as in riding on the street and back roads or around the city or all points in between as opposed to the world of spec sheets and repliracers built for the track to win in Superstock or Supersport racing. For 90% of sport bike riders, racing does not comprise their world of personal experience to dominate the track it isn't why they buy their bike.

Next question?

And for all those who complain about the XBs being too small, maybe the Ulysses is an answer to your complaints.

Are you getting it yet? Or do you just want to gripe some more. ; )

Sorry, Anony -

When your (or your marketeers') stradgedy is to release NO details on upcoming stuff, you sorta gotta expect that people will get all worked up in said Info Vaccuum. So don't get PO'ed when enthusiasts' imaginations run wild, setting everyone up for disappointment.

Now back to anticipating that 250-lb fuel-injected 2-stroke I'm jonesin' for....

Hmmm.... It looks like the tail section might be different.
So far I'm liking the drawing. Very nice art work. I can't wait to see the actual bike.
Buell hasn't disappointed me yet. Even the ones I wouldn't own appeal to me in one way or another.

This is a bold step for Buell - they're entering a market that is pretty much owned by BMW with the 1150/1200GS line. I'd love to see Buell get a strong toe-hold in this market.

At first glance, I am very interested in the 12X but I have my doubts regarding a belt drive bike on semi-paved and unpaved roads.

Thank you Dave!

I have asked my dealer (San Diego Harley-Davidson/Buell) if they are commited to Buell, and they said they were. Two of the parts gentlemen own and ride Buells, so that is some comfort.

Well, Saturday's looking even more interesting following THAT bit of teasing, innit?

If the thing's got, say, a 55-inch wheelbase, a 32-inch seat height and a 5.7-gallon tank, I think they'll be able to sell a few of them... can I get it in Molten Orange?
